Anglesey Day 2018

Anglesey Day 2018

Anglesey celebrates 'The Year of the Sea' in UK Parliament.

A day promoting the Isle of Anglesey in the House of Commons hosted by Albert Owen MP will take place on Wednesday. The event will link in with the Welsh Government’s theme of the Year of the Sea and will include representatives from the island's coastal communities, focussing on tourism and marine energy.

"Since my election I have regularly held such days, this forms part of my pledge to promote the Island constituency in Parliament" said Ynys Môn MP Albert Owen.

"This year, in conjunction with the Year of the Sea, we are keen to showcase the Island's marine coastal environment and the social and economic benefits that comes with it. Anglesey has the potential to be both a location to work and a destination to visit, bringing the highest quality jobs two key sectors, tourism and energy. We will have public, private and voluntary sectors at the event, representing a diverse range of businesses and groups from tidal energy developers to the RNLI, and there will also be a taste of Anglesey for MPs, Peers and parliamentary staff to enjoy.

"Anglesey is unique island community and it's our chance to raise the status of Môn Mam Cymru – The Mother of Wales – in the Mother of Parliaments Since I held my first dedicated Anglesey Day, a number of MPs have done similar County/Constituency events, but I maintain that Anglesey Day is the Premier County Day in Parliament’s calendar. Subject to parliamentary business, colleagues get the chance to engage with local organisations, and our local representatives get the chance to network and get the positive message about Anglesey PLC out far and wide."
