Statement by Albert Owen MP/AS

I am disappointed to learn today that the Furniture Solutions Division and Group Executive Board (GEB) of REHAU, have, despite receiving alternative proposals from the Amlwch plant employees’ representatives, decided to close the plant by December 2019.

I have worked with the Welsh Government, local politicians and the North Wales Task Force since the consultation process began and led a cross party delegation to meet senior management in London.

We heard from the company some exciting alternatives that came from the company employees. I recently had a follow up meeting and raised the issue in the House of Commons with government ministers and felt the quality of alternative proposals were strong.

However, the decision was made by the GED board, far removed from the UK, in mainland Europe.

I will continue to press the company to re-consider its decision and work with others to put the case for the excellent workforce at the Amlwch REHAU plant. I will also join politicians and agencies in offering support to the dedicated workforce.
