Albert Owen MP leads Anglesey Delegation to meet Secretary of State for BEIS and Secretary of State for Wales in Westminster to discuss Wylfa Newydd and REHAU

Anglesey MP Albert Owen is upbeat following his meeting at Westminster yesterday with BEIS Secretary of State Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, BEIS Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Richard Harrington MP and Secretary of State for Wales Rt Hon Alun Cairns MP.

The Island’s MP was accompanied by a high level delegation, which included Anglesey AM Rhun ap Iorwerth, North Wales MPs including Guto Bebb, Anglesey Council Leader Llinos Medi Huws, local members and industry experts.

Commenting following the meeting, Mr Owen said,

“I am extremely pleased three senior ministers from the UK Government accepted my invitation to meet with the Anglesey delegation and that we were able to focus on the serious challenges facing Anglesey, particularly in the north of the Island and to look at the wider North Wales economy.”

“I was also delighted that a senior management representative from REHAU was able to take the opportunity to update the delegation on the consultation process relating to the future of the Amlwch site.”

“Let me be clear, there is no underestimating the seriousness or the size of the challenges ahead, particularly for the Wylfa Newydd project and REHAU, however this meeting shows that the focus is now clearly on Anglesey and North Wales.”

“Greg Clark has given a commitment to visit the area as soon as possible and I am very pleased that the emphasis is on working together at all levels of government in order to tackle these challenges and capitalise on the future potential of the region.”
